Enlighten Festival is committed to reducing barriers and delivering an event that is accessible and inclusive.

We want your visit to Enlighten Festival to be as enjoyable and inclusive as possible and will provide the following services:

  • Accessible parking
  • Accessible toilets and a Changing Places facility
  • Mobility hire services

Pathways throughout the site are wide enough for pedestrians, wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and strollers. Please note that some paths have loose gravel, and water may collect after rain.

In addition to on-site accessible parking, you can reach Enlighten Festival via public transport or the accessible Enlighten shuttle bus.

Plan your Enlighten Festival trip before you arrive

Accessible parking if attending events after 5pm:

There is a dedicated accessible car park located behind Questacon. You will be required to show your valid Accessible Parking Permit to security to gain access through the road closures.

Free accessible parking is available in most public car parks and Enlighten Illuminations participating attractions car parks. Parking is limited and vehicles must display an authorised Accessible Parking Permit.

The accessibility map displays accessible car park spaces within the National Triangle. A map will be available soon.

Consider leaving the car at home, or somewhere close by and completing your journey to the Enlighten Festival with Transport Canberra. Plan your journey today by visiting transport.act.gov.au. The buses are all wheelchair accessible. 

The National Portrait Gallery Access Hub provides essential services to ensure every Enlighten visitor can enjoy the event comfortably and inclusively.

Services include –

  • Accessible Facilities – Bathrooms, parents’ room, and other amenities available until 11:30 pm nightly.
  • Sensory Kits – Provided by NPG. Free, no booking required. Available for visitors with sensory sensitivities or neurodiverse needs.
  • Free Parking – Underground public car park open 5:00–11:30 pm. Accessible spaces are located near lifts. Entry via Parkes Place East, max vehicle height: 2.2 m.

The Access Hub is located at the National Portrait Gallery Forecourt.

Yes! A limited number of wheelchairs, electric mobility scooters and strollers will be available for hire on site.
