As night descends, the lights are coming on inside a cute little see-thru house in which Nuku is waking up. There is a little bed, a table and chairs, costumes, stuffed toys and all kinds of quirky props. What happens next is up to the audience.

You Are Me is an all-ages, award nominated, participatory theatre installation in which the audience controls the actions of the performer through a computer terminal – evoking the retro charm of early text-based video games.

Staged within a beautifully lit miniature greenhouse, You Are Me introduces cute, pink-haired puppet character ‘Nuku’, her actions and adventures only limited by the audience’s imagination. Live performance is paired with an innovative use of technologies to create an on-the-spot, improvised community collaboration filled with serendipitous moments and emotional connections.

You Are Me explores notions of control, identity, conformity and responsibility and is designed to bring a sense of playfulness and co-operation while also engaging discussion on our increasingly virtual world.

A world in which our multiple avatar-selves are more and more taking centre stage. Designed and performed by Niow, with computer programming and sound design by Steph O’Hara (SohLa).
