Gather the kids and get ready to see Canberra sparkle—Enlighten Festival 2026 is back from 27 February to 9 March, transforming the National Triangle into a glowing playground of creativity, colour and imagination. With dazzling projections lighting up iconic buildings each night and a Festival Hub filled with food, music, and interactive fun for all ages, Enlighten is one of the city’s most family friendly celebrations.  

From hands-on adventures and after-dark discoveries to live performances and spectacular Illuminations, this curated Family Fun itinerary makes it easy to explore the best of the festival: stress-free, kid-approved, and filled with unforgettable moments. Get ready to experience Canberra in a whole new light! 

6:00PM Retro video game meets participatory theatre

Start your evening at the National Library of Australia and look for You Are Me—a retro video game style participatory theatre installation where you can control the performer’s actions. 

While here, step into the Library foyer to get a preview of the artistic process behind their 2026 Illumination, The Page Turner, created by Canberran artists Eleanor & Giovanni. The foyer display is open until 8pm Monday–Thursday

6:30PM Create your own curiosity lantern

From the National Library, head across the lawns to the National Archives of Australia and spark your imagination at the free Curiosity Lantern Workshop. Dive into themes of wonder and exploration as you design a lantern that reflects your personality, your ideas, or even the story you want to share throughout the festival. Whether you’re aiming for something bold and eye‑catching or something quietly meaningful, this hands‑on activity is the perfect way to warm up your creative side. 

A great way to create a glowing accessory for the rest of your Enlighten evening! 

7:30PM Enjoy a bite to eat at Festival Hub

Take a short walk over to the Festival Hub grab a bite to eat and absorb the festival vibes while the kids enjoy the entertainment, roving performances and delicious food.  

Open from 5pm-11pm each night, The Festival Hub will be the place to be during Enlighten, with installations, the bustling Food Park, local vendors, bars and a diverse lineup of homegrown talent taking to the stage each night.

8:15PM Illuminations come alive across the National Triangle

As darkness settles, the 2026 Illuminations burst to life across Canberra’s most iconic buildings. All six major projection works are new, original artworks created specifically for Enlighten 2026. Take an evening family stroll and see them all in one night: 

  • The Page Turner — Eleanor & Giovanni, National Library of Australia 
  • Democracy! — Philip Bunting, Australian Parliament House 

8:30PM Keep a look out for roving performers

As you explore, you’ll encounter delightful surprises—roving performers, creatures, and illuminated characters. Expect brand new world premiere works such as: 

Kids love these unexpected popups, and they make for fantastic photo moments. Check out the daily program at the Festival Hub for each night’s entertainment. 

9:00PM Music under the stars at the Festival Hub

Head to the Festival Hub Main Stage—the heart of Enlighten—to catch some of the festival’s headline musical acts. Artists include: 

Grab dessert, enjoy the atmosphere, and soak in the glow.

9:45PM Final Wonder: Serendipity & Glitch Monument

Finish your night at Reconciliation Place East, where you’ll find more Festival Artworks: 

  • Serendipity — a largescale sculpture exploring time and small, joyful moments 
  • Glitch Monument — holographic water projections shimmering in the Cascade Waterfall at the High Court 

It’s the perfect, gently immersive way to wind down after a night of excitement.

Located in Canberra’s National Triangle, Enlighten’s Festival Hub is at John Dunmore Lang Place, Parkes. We recommend planning ahead and using public transport to make getting to the festival easy. View festival maps online.
