Celebrate Opening Night in the Enlighten Festival Hub in a showcase of talented First Nations artists that call Ngunnawal Country home. After a Welcome to Country from Aunty Violet Sheridan, award winning singer – songwriter Wallabindi will be joined by guest performers from the Wamburang Women’s Choir and Project Dust. This lovingly curated and powerful collaboration combines dance, song and beautiful harmonies for what will be an uplifting and unforgettable showcase performance to open Enlighten 2026.
Wallabindi is an award winning First Nations artist hailing from the shores of Boorloo, Western Australia. A constantly evolving force on the Canberra music and arts scene, her soul drenched vocals have weaved throughout lineups – both in Australia and the UK – for over 20 years. She has performed alongside many iconic Australian artists including Dan Sultan, Frente, Icehouse and Coloured Stone. Fresh back from a run of successful festival performances in 2025, Wallabindi and her phenomenal band will share powerful story and song as part of a beautifully curated collaboration for the 2026 Enlighten opening ceremony.

The Wamburang Women’s Choir is a First Nations women-led community choir based at the Australian National University (ANU) Community Music Centre. The choir provides a culturally safe, inclusive space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to come together through singing, storytelling, and collective music-making. The ensemble centres Indigenous voices, languages, and contemporary expression, while prioritising community connection, wellbeing, and cultural continuity.

Project Dust is a Canberra-based First Nations contemporary dance group and community, established in 2022 to provide a safe space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth to connect with culture, build confidence, and perform. The group brings together participants from many different Tribes, fostering mentorship and resilience through dance and creative expression.
