Immerse yourself in the wonders of the natural world after dark with a self-guided discovery of the Australian National Botanic Gardens as part of Canberra After Dark @Enlighten Festival. As darkness creeps into the gardens, experience the intimate relationship between nature and the night when it becomes a whole new place filled with different sounds, scents and colours. Begin at the Visitors Centre by exploring the ‘Bimblebox 153 Birds’ exhibition, then tour the rainforest at dusk. Bring your own picnic and relax on the new Friends Lawn and explore the Banksia Garden and Paperbarks while sampling a native gin by Underground Spirits.

Tickets: Prices includes general entry into the lower half of the Gardens after hours with a self-guided discovery walk of the Rainforest, Friends Lawn, Banksia Garden and Paperbark area.

There is a limited number of tickets available so entry at the gate will be dependent on availability.

The gates open at 6.30pm and will remain open for entry until 9.30pm. Arrival times are flexible. General entry ticket holders are welcome to arrive at any time from 6.30pm – 8.00pm. Ticket holders will be able to enter the Visitor Centre beginning their self-guided walk in the lower part of the Gardens.

The program has a COVIDSafe plan and is outdoors; however, it may be subject to changes in accordance with ACT Government restrictions at the time of the event.

The event will go ahead in light rain, and we recommend you bring wet weather clothing and umbrellas. The event will be cancelled in the event of bad weather, storms and heavy winds or total fire bans. We will advertise on social media if the event is cancelled for any reason. Ticket holders will be informed via email and refunds will be processed via Ticketek.

The majority of the event is accessible; however, due to the use of stairs in the Rainforest Gully, the event is not fully wheelchair accessible. Please contact us at events@anbg.gov.au if you require mobility assistance, before purchasing a ticket. There is reduced access for people with limited mobility as the event is not contained to the main sealed footpath.

There is limited seating. If you have fold-up chairs, cushions and a picnic with rug, feel free to bring them along to relax on the new Friends Lawn.

Nocturnal is a non-smoking event.

There will be limited food and drink available for purchase onsite. Pure Gelato and Underground Spirits will be operating on the night. You are welcome to bring your own picnic.

There will be parking available in the main car park and if necessary, the overflow carpark off Clunies Ross Street. Please do not park on Clunies Ross Street as this is not a legal parking area.
