A carpet of gently glowing lights and mysterious rocks, Insectarium is a luminous landscape of local insects for you to discover.

Our natural spaces are filled with life, and many of our insects need support. Insectarium is about seeing and appreciating the overlooked in our everyday world. The story of our gardens, backyards, and natural spaces is also the story of our beetles, bees and other small creatures.

Created by the indirect Object in collaboration with Inspiring Australia ACT, and local Canberra entomologists, Insectarium celebrates familiar insects and highlights threatened and endangered species.

Insectarium is a low-sensory all abilities space made for up-close curiosity, gentle touchy-feely crawling, small feet climbing and immersive relaxation.

Discover more: From 6-8pm on Monday to Thursday delve deeper into the secret life of Canberra insects with local ANU and CSIRO entomologists. These real-life insect scientists will be at the Insectarium to answer all your burning questions about bugs and share about their amazing research.

Accessible from 5pm but be sure to visit after dark for the full experience.

About The Artist

The indirect Object are festival, event and community engagement artists creating installations, activations, roving puppets and workshops for medium to large-scale activations across eastern Australia.

Our installation work is playful, inclusive, accessible and designed for diverse needs. We work with sustainable and recycled materials where possible. Our workshops and community engagement programs only use recycled, rescued, and repurposed materials. We develop site-specific work on commission, collaborate with community and have a dedicated team of community volunteers who collect and source materials for us.
