Your guide to eating vegetarian and vegan at the Canberra Night Noodle Markets

Kale yeah! There are more plant-based options than ever at Canberra Night Noodle Markets this year. From Korean fried cauliflower to teriyaki tofu bao-gurs (pictured), the options are truly radishing for all the vegans, vegetarians and flexitarians out there. Bangkok Street Food | Tom Yum Noodle (Vegetarian)

Wok this way! Packed with the spicy and sour flavours of lemongrass, ginger and garlic, the tastemakers of Bangkok Street Food have put the yum into Tom Yum. While this vegetarian dish is en-Thai-erly delicious, vegans can also tuck into Bangkok Street Food’s plant-based Spring rolls. Smash solo or share, we won’t judge. 

Bao Brothers | 3zy Duz It, Loaded Sweet Potato Fries, Korean Fried Cauliflower (All vegan)

May we have your attention please? Bao Brothers are the OG plant-based hustlers, and at the Canberra Night Noodle Markets, they have created a one-stop vegan and vegetarian shop. Pull up for the 3zy Duz It trio of tofu bao, where creamy tofu is cooked to perfection – soft, silky with an ultra-light crisp coating. If you like bao buns and you cannot lie – especially when they’re so fluffy and delicate and steamed to perfection, then these are the buns for you.  Also, make sure you don’t go past an order of the Loaded Sweet Potato Fries; crispy sweet potato, plum ketchup, Kewpie mayo, fresh shallots and toasted sesame seeds or the Korean Fried Cauliflower that’s covered in a chilli glaze and sesame seeds. Because all dishes are vego-friendly, they don’t contain any notorious P.I.G. 

Calabang | Long Potato Fries (Vegetarian)

A fry that’s [nearly] as long as your arm? Um, yes please! A serve of these Long Potato Fries is huge, so grab your mates to share the love. So good as a side dish for other the Canberra Night Noodle Markets favourites, these crisp, hot and hearty fries are the ultimate comfort food.

Chinese Dim Sum King | Dumplings, Buns and Spring Rolls (Vegetarian and Vegan options)

Run, don’t walk to Chinese Dim Sum King. They have a whole host of vegetarian or vegan options! Craving dumplings? They’ve got you – grab either the mushroom or mixed veg. Begging for a bean bun? Look no further! Vegan spring rolls? Very well then. There’s plenty to share with your veggo or flexitarian mates at Chinese Dim Sum King.

Donburi Station | Osaka Noodles and Gyoza (Vegetarian)

At Donburi Station, you’ll be saying never let me gyoza, because you’ll be wonton more. They are a Canberra Night Noodle Market favourite! For their Osaka Noodles, they add Japanese noodles to a wok, toss them with loads of veggies and a teriyaki-like sauce. It’s smoky, delicate and delicious. Their vegetarian Japanese fried dumplings have the perfect combo of crunch, softness and bold flavour. They really are all that, and dim sum.

Hoy Pinoy | Inihaw Na Mais, Grilled Corn (Vegetarian)

Follow your nose to Hoy Pinoy – they truly are the Filipino BBQ grill masters! At the Canberra Night Noodle Markets, they will be making all vegetarians’ stomachs rumble with their Inihaw na Mais. It’s a dish of grilled corn, coconut cream, desiccated coconut and chilli. Bite into that succulent corn, let the coconut cream and chilli run down your hands – this is a dish that is too good to eat with restrained table manners!

Grill & Spice | Samosa Chaat (Vegetarian)

Samosa Chaat is a snack that is literally PACKED with big, beautiful, bold flavours. No wonder it is one of the most popular street foods in India. You’ll get a serve of peas and potato in crispy, crunchy pastry, topped with Indian spices and sauces. One bite and you’ll agree that Grill & Spice’s food is second to naan.

Raijin Noodles & Dumplings | Tofu Tatsuta Noodle (Vegetarian)

Raijin is the Japanese Thunder God – and you’ll be wanting their Tofu Tatsuta Noodles to rain on down from the heavens! It’s that good! Their divine seaweed stocked soy is used to marinate tofu, and then they coat it in 100% potato starch (that’s the cooking method of “tatsuta”). Next, they deep-fry the tofu and serve it on top of their house-made soy tahini-based saucy noodles. You’ll be Raijin mad not to order this powerful dish.

May’s Malaysian Hawker | Whole Menu can be made Vegetarian and Vegan

May’s Malaysian is a one-stop-shop of vegan goodness – every menu item is completely plant-based.  Let’s start with Mee Goreng as this is May’s signature dish. It’s smoky, saucy and fresh from the wok, featuring golden Hokkien noodles. This is one elevated version of a classic dish! Or get amongst some Singapore Noodles; thin bee-hoon noodles cooked over a smoking wok fire with May’s own curry spices, fresh veggies and more. Nasi Goreng; this is THE REAL DEAL of classic Malay fried rice.  Char Kway Teow; fun to say and even more fun to eat. It’s a dish of sizzling hot noodles, stir-fried with May’s secret sauce. Superbao | Teriyaki Tofu Bao-ger (Vegetarian)

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Superbao! Their Teriyaki Tofu Bao-ger is all about dressing that soft and creamy tofu in teriyaki sauce and Japanese mayo, serving it with cucumber and pickled ginger. It will have you bao-ging for more!

Shallot Thai | Thai Vegetable Spring Rolls (Vegan)

These all-time Thai classics are stuffed full of vegetables and fried just the way you like them. Enjoy as a starter, a side or as a dish of their own because Spring rolls really are the perfect treat at Canberra Night Noodle Markets.

Teppanyaki Noodles | Yakisoba, Japanese style fried noodles (Vegetarian)

Eating Yakisoba feels like a big, warm hug for your insides. Smokey, silky and oh-so-delicious, Teppanyaki noodles are swished around a piping-hot wok, coated in Yakisoba sauce, and finished with a garnish of pickled ginger, dried goodies and a squiggle of mayo. Delish.

The Pham Sisters | Full vegan menu

Vegans, it’s time to celebrate. Everything that The Pham Sisters serve is 100% plant-based. Get a plate of their Vegan Peking Duck Pancake and you’ll be rewarded with a dish of Vietnamese crispy pancake, stuffed with vegan roast duck and veggies, topped with their secret-recipe homemade BBQ sauce. Duck yeah! 

Twistto | Original Korean Twist Potato (Vegetarian)

Twist and shout foodies! Twistto is back at Canberra Night Noodle Markets. Twistto’s hand-cut potato pieces are stretched into a 35cm long in a spiral shape, cooked in oil with secret house batter and finished off with carefully blended flavours. One crunch will have you singing!

Wok Master | Stir-Fried Rice Thick Noodle (Vegetarian)

We will, we will, wok you! Start your food journey right at the Canberra Night Noodle Markets and head to Wok Master. Their vegetarian thick rice noodles are stir-fried with veggies and egg in a special ABC soy sauce, producing a classic must-have dish for all noodle lovers. Have them in the afternoon or evening and one thing is for sure, you’ll be wokking on sunshine at Wok Master.

Wonderbao | Fried Tofu Gua Bao and Choi Bao (Vegetarian)

Well, it’s a-bao-t time we got to Wonderbao. Favourites at the Canberra Night Noodle Markets, enjoy their mouth-watering fluffy parcels packed full of flavour. These wonderful bao wizards will be serving up not one, but two options for all you wonderful lean, green, plant-based eating machines. The Tofu Gua Bao is filled with tofu, pickled daikon and nori, then covered in okonomiyaki sauce. While Choi Bao is stuffed with shiitake mushrooms, tofu and loaded with veggies. Bao chicka wow wow! Those are some tasty vegetarian treats!
